The Office on Violence Against Women (OVW), a component of the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) is pleased to announce the call for applications for “OVW FY 2017 Grants to Enhance Culturally Specific Services for Victims of Sexual Assault, Domestic Violence, Dating Violence, and Stalking Program”.
The Grants to Enhance Culturally Specific Services for Victims of Sexual Assault, Domestic Violence, Dating Violence and Stalking Program (Culturally Specific Services Program) was created by the Violence Against Women and Department of Justice Reauthorization Act of 2005.
This program supports culturally specific community-based organizations in addressing the critical needs of sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking victims in a manner that affirms a victim’s culture.
Funding Information
- Awards under the Culturally Specific Services Program for FY 2017 will be made for up to $300,000.
- The Culturally Specific Services Program typically makes awards in the range of $250,000 to $300,000.
- OVW estimates that it will make up to 20 awards for an estimated $6,000,000.
- The grant award period is 24 months. Budgets must reflect 24 months of project activity, and the total “estimated funding” on the Application for Federal Assistance, SF-424 must reflect 24 months. Generally, the award period will start on October 1, 2017.
Priority Areas
- Strengthen and revitalize coordinated community response and multi-disciplinary teams, prioritizing those that meaningfully involve organizations and programs that focus on marginalized communities.
- Increase support for sexual assault, including services, law enforcement response and prosecution.
- Meaningfully increase access to OVW programming for specific underserved populations (based on race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, age, etc.).
- Increase the use of promising or evidence-building practices, where available. (no more than three percent can support assessments)
Eligibility Criteria
- Native American tribal organizations (other than Federally recognized tribal governments)
- Nonprofits having a 501(c)(3) status with the IRS, other than institutions of higher education
- Eligible entities for this program are community based programs for which the primary purpose of the organization as a whole is to provide culturally specific services to one or more of the following racial and ethnic communities:
- American Indians (including Alaska Natives, Eskimos, and Aleuts); Asian Americans;
- Native Hawaiians and other Pacific Islanders; Blacks; and Hispanics.2
