U.S. Embassy in Algeria is currently inviting applicants for its MEPI Student Leaders Program 2018 which is an intensive five-week exchange program to the United States for approximately 60 undergraduate students from the Middle East and North Africa. It offers outstanding undergraduate and graduate students from across the MENA region an intensive leadership training course.
Students attend U.S. academic institutions where they develop leadership skills and expand their understanding of civil society and participatory governance and how both may be applied in their home communities. Students are divided among U.S. academic institutions (Georgetown University, Montana State University, the University of Delaware, and Portland State University).
The program will run from June 25 to August 04, 2018 in the United States and will include coursework/trainings as well as field visits to complement and reinforce the concepts explored in the academic residency. All students are expected to travel to the United States unaccompanied.
Themes
All academic programs will address common themes including:
- A comparative analysis of leadership styles
- Consensus-building, conflict resolution, Individual and collective problem-solving, and group dynamics
- The role of civil society
- Public speaking
- Job-seeking skills
Eligibility Criteria
The program is open to undergraduate students who:
- Are Algerian citizens living and attending school in Algeria
- Are aged between 20 and 24 years old as of June 1st 2018
- Be undergraduate or 1st year master degree students
- Are proficient in English
- Have sustained high level of academic achievement, as indicated by grades, awards, and teacher recommendations
- Have no prior study or travel experience in the United States
- Have commitment to civic engagement
