The Public Affairs Office of U.S. Embassy in Botswana is currently accepting proposals from organizations or individuals to host and instruct a series of free educational and/or cultural sessions, or propose other innovative projects for the public in support of the mandates of post Gaborone’s mobile information center, America on the Move which include:
- Provide accurate, compelling, timely, and audience-appropriate information about the United States – its history, culture and values.
- Facilitate English language learning through access to English language speakers, resources, computers and the Internet.
- Promote U.S. higher education through EducationUSA advising by providing international students with accurate, comprehensive, and current guidance on applying to U.S. colleges and universities.
- Foster people-to-people connection, increase understanding, and build respect with host-country audiences through cultural programs.
- Support continued engagement with U.S. government alumni, connecting them to local audiences through alumni programs where credible, local voices can share firsthand information about the United States and American values.
America on the Move is a pop-up center that shares American culture and values with the Botswana public through various activities and programs and promotes the creation of spaces for dialogue, education, and outreach. It utilizes a mix of technology and person-to-person programming to increase avenues of community engagement, education, and empowerment throughout Botswana. The U.S. Embassy seeks programming partners to present activities based upon the goals identified above. Activities could include lessons, lectures, and traditional learning environments, but could also include efforts focused on media or digital literacy, language clubs, or other innovative ideas.
Strategic Priorities
All submitted projects must address one of the six U.S. foreign policy themes below:
- Health: Encouraging Healthy Choices — Projects create environments that promote good health for all, particularly in the area of public health.
- Governance: Promoting Good Governance and Accountability — Projects promote accountable, transparent, and democratic governance, and protection the rule of law and human rights and liberties for all.
- Economic Development: Fostering a Culture of Entrepreneurship — Projects promote or develop best practices in business and entrepreneurship. Proposals to create for-profit businesses or directly employ workers are not eligible for funding.
- Education: Advancing Knowledge and Skills — Projects enhance or strengthen English language learning and/or STEM for learners and/or educators at the primary, secondary, or tertiary level.
- Environment: Projects address conservation, along with sustainable and economically beneficial management of natural resources.
- Security: Promoting Peace and Security– Projects advance regional security cooperation and integration
Funding Information
The total amount of funding is $5,000 and the anticipated number of awards is three, contingent upon availability. The award duration is one year.
Eligibility Criteria
- Businesses and government entities do not qualify. Applicants must be individuals or registered NGOs.
- Recipients may demonstrate their commitment by either contributing to the project financially, or providing labor or supplies to carry out the project. Cost-sharing is not required but encouraged.
- Alumni of USG exchange programs encouraged to apply
