Applications are open for Democracy Commission – Special Countering violent extremism (CVE) Round to award grants to Macedonian non-profit and non-governmental organizations for projects that build community resilience; to identify, interrupt, and prevent radicalization efforts; and/or to address the social or economic push factors to violent extremism in the country.
This grant program will support projects and activities aimed at preventing recruitment or radicalization to violence by interrupting those efforts, building community-level resilience to them, and identifying the early signs of radicalization to violence and providing appropriate interventions through collaboration with civic organizations, law enforcement or other entities. Successful projects will focus on strengthening community networks to address this issue, and all projects must include a multi-stakeholder approach that includes community leaders from different sectors in the planning and implementation of program activities.
Program Priorities
- Developing community resilience;
- Training and engaging with community stakeholder groups (ie: teachers, parents, police, religious, and local leaders) to identify, interrupt, and prevent radicalization;
- Managing intervention activities;
- Addressing social and economic push factors to violent extremism;
- Building capacity of community-level non-profit organizations to conduct programs and activities to strengthen community resilience and/or address push factors to violent extremism;

Eligible Applicants
- Eligibility is limited to Macedonian non-profit/nongovernmental organizations. For-profit organizations are not eligible to apply.
- The application should:
- Address how the project will contribute to the priorities listed above;
- List the different stakeholder groups that will be engaged in the project, noting where organizations have committed to participation;
- Enumerate specific objectives of the proposed project as well as outputs and outcomes to be achieved by the end of the grant period;
- Clearly specify the audiences to be reached and the geographic locations of program activities, and proposed programs in multiple locations, should explain how that will be accomplished;
- Explain how programs and activities will be monitored and evaluated;
- Describe how elements of the project will have a multiplier effect or be sustainable beyond the life of the grant;
- Demonstrate competency to manage all financial and oversight aspects of the project, including participant costs and transparent arrangements of sub-grant relationships with partner organizations, if applicable.
