The U.S. Embassy Lima Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Department of State announces a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) open competition for Peruvian and U.S. civil society, institutions, NGOs, the Peruvian diaspora in the United States, and/or government organizations to submit applications to carry out a program any time in 2021 to commemorate the bicentennial of Peruvian independence, which will be commemorated on July 28, 2021.
The United States and Peru have enjoyed an ongoing and mutually beneficial strategic partnership since establishing diplomatic relations in 1827. The United States partners with Peru in support of Peru’s aspirations for regional and global leadership, and to continue the fight against transnational criminal organizations, promote economic opportunities for U.S. businesses, and strengthen citizen safety and security.
Additionally, proposals must explicitly address one or more of the thematic goals of the Bicentennial Project:
- Dialogue and Reconciliation
- Equal Opportunities
- Identity and Diversity
- Integration and competitiveness
- Anti-Corruption
- Sustainability
The Bicentennial Project is a celebration of the Peru of today and an aspiration for innovative, diverse citizens of tomorrow. A list of suggested programs follows, but serious consideration will be given to any proposal that contains an element of ICS and the Bicentennial Project’s stated thematic goals. Suggestions include:
- Educational programs that provide leadership training to elevate the participation of women and minority figures in Peru’s democracy and strengthen citizen values
- Social programs that promote community leaders who will become agents of change to combat xenophobia, racism, discrimination, anti-immigrant mentalities, and associated propaganda tools
- Cultural programs that celebrate Peru’s rich history, its historical connection to the United States, and diverse world of art and entertainment
- Industrial programs that highlight historical advances in technology and infrastructure and/or offer innovative solutions for modern day problems

Award Floor and Ceiling: $5,000 – $50,000 USD
Eligibility Criteria
- The U.S. Embassy Lima Public Affairs Section encourages applications from U.S. or Peruvian citizens and/or organizations, including:
- Registered public or private non-profit organizations, such as think tanks and civil society/nongovernmental organizations with programming experience
- Non-profit or governmental educational institutions
- Governmental institutions
- For-profit or commercial entities are not eligible to apply.
