The Public Affairs Section (PAS) of the U.S. Embassy Bishkek has announced funding is available to Kyrgyz Republic registered not-for-profit civil society organizations (CSOs), non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and associations, think tanks, and academic institutions and U.S. and Kyrgyz Republic individuals as specified below through the Embassy’s Public Diplomacy Grants program.
The Public Affairs Section (PAS) at the U.S. Embassy Bishkek is soliciting proposals for grants from Kyrgyz Republic registered not-for-profit civil society organizations (CSOs), non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and associations, think tanks, and academic institutions and U.S. and Kyrgyz Republic individuals that focus on one of the priority areas specified below.
PAS invites proposals for programs that support one of the following goals: 1) Promoting Regional Stability; 2) Promoting Democracy and Democratic Institutions; 3) Promoting an environment conducive to supporting Business, Entrepreneurship, and Investment growth in the Kyrgyz Republic. All proposals must clearly articulate how the above-mentioned goals are met.
Priority Areas
- Priority Audiences:
- Projects should engage Public Affairs’ key audiences, including: youth (14-25 years old), entrepreneurs/innovators, journalists, women, other marginalized groups, civil society organizations, and/or non-profit organizations.
- Grant Public Affairs Priority Themes:
- Arts, Culture, and Sports Programs: should promote local cultural heritage, traditional and modern art forms, and other forms of creative expression and have a connection to American values or culture. These programs may support civil society organizations, non-profit organizations, educational institutions, or emerging leaders in these fields. The aim of arts, culture and sports programs is to deepen ties between Kyrgyz Republic and the U.S. and improve understanding about U.S. culture and values.
- Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Economic Empowerment: should develop innovative ideas involving STEAM, space, social entrepreneurship, adaptive technologies, rural economic development, economic diversification, women’s empowerment, corporate social responsibility, access to finance, and support for entrepreneurs.
- Media Strengthening: Increase transparency, media professionalism, access to diverse sources of news, and savvy consumption of news. Projects may develop Kyrgyz language media, fact-checking and research for journalists or media consumers, capitalize on social media use for greater transparency, and/or expand such programs beyond the capital and secondary cities of Kyrgyz Republic.
- English Language Programs: Projects should promote the use and spread of the English language through innovative clubs, forums, social media, educational, and/or arts endeavors.
- Fostering Regional Stability: Projects should promote peace building, leadership development, youth and women’s empowerment, diversity and inclusion. Such projects should strengthen ties between the United States and Kyrgyz Republic or on a regional basis for Central Asian countries through academic arenas, arts and culture, civil society, and related programs.
Funding Information
- Floor of Individual Award Amounts: $1,000
- Ceiling of Individual Award Amounts: $50,000 (Pending availability of funds)
- Anticipated period of performance: 9-12 months
Eligibility Criteria
- The U.S. Embassy Bishkek Public Affairs Section will accept applications from Kyrgyz Republic registered not-for-profit, civil society/non-governmental organizations, educational institutions, and U.S. and Kyrgyz Republic individuals with at least one year of programming experience desired. This experience must be documented in the organization’s proposal.
- A copy of the organization’s registration must be provided with the proposal application.
- S.-based organizations must submit a copy of their IRS determination letter.
- Kyrgyz Republic-based organizations should submit a copy of their certificate of registration from the appropriate government organization.
- Cost Sharing or Matching
- Inclusion of cost share is not a requirement of this opportunity, nor will it affect the proposal’s competitiveness.
