The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) is inviting applications for the Global Environment Fund’s Small Project Grant Program.
Global Environment Fund (GEF) Small Grant Programme (SGP) funds community organizations (CBOs) and local non-governmental organizations (NGOs) on the basis of applying solutions suitable to the conditions of each location. Methods to address local environmental problems in the GEF’s focus areas.
Objectives
- The main objectives of the GEF SGP
- Implement within the community of strategies and techniques that contribute to the protection of the global environment if these strategies and techniques are replicated over time;
- Drawing lessons from local practice, supporting the spread of successful strategies or initiatives on a large scale through CBOs, NGOs, governments, development aid agencies, GEFs and other relevant agencies/organizations; and
- Build partnerships and systems of local stakeholders and beneficiaries to support and strengthen the capacity of communities, local CBOs and NGOs to contribute to addressing environmental issues and promote sustainable development
Call for Project Ideas
- Priority topics:
- Promote the process of institutionalizing and perfecting the management model of community-level protected areas maintaining biodiversity values, ecosystems, preserving indigenous knowledge and preserving cultural values intangibles of ethnic minorities and local communities
- Forum between NGOs/CBOs and the government on climate-smart agriculture, digital transformation in agriculture, initiatives to limit desertification, land degradation, domestic solid waste management. Exchanging lessons learned to influence policies on the management of marine protected areas, co-management of aquatic resources in coastal ecosystems, community-based domestic solid waste management, energy development, etc. biomass and solar energy, efficient use of agricultural by-products.
- Capacity building for project development, project management, monitoring and evaluation, policy communication, gender equality, focusing on attracting women, young people, ethnic minorities, people with disabilities participate in the activities of SGP . projects
Funding Information
- Funding organizations can propose up to $50,000 to implement the project in 12-18 months.
Eligibility Criteria
- Funding recipients: Vietnamese NGOs, socio-professional organizations, community organizations (the masses).
- The sponsoring organization writes the project idea in Vietnamese (according to the prescribed form) and submits it to the GEF SGP.

- The Coordinator (DP) reviews, screens and proposes the GEF SGP National Steering Committee (National Steering Committee) to approve the project idea.
- Funding organizations with project ideas approved by the GEF SGP apply for funding for project construction in case of need. The GEF SGP provided funding for the survey and project construction.
- The developer considers and approves the application for funding for project construction.
- The organization applying for funding has a project idea approved by the GEF SGP to develop and write a Project Proposal (according to the prescribed form).
- Organization applying for funding submits the Project Proposal to the screening applicant
- The approved project proposals will be submitted to the National Steering Committee for consideration and selection
- Project proposals approved by the NSC will be submitted to UNDP Viet Nam for consideration and approval.
- Project proposals approved by UNDP Viet Nam will be submitted to the Central Program Administration (CPMT) in New York and the United Nations Office of Project Services (UNOPS) for funding.
- Approved proposals will be included in the SGP Work Program.
