The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is inviting proposals from qualified entities for a program to “Support the Implementation of Women’s Participation and Influence in Zimbabwe” in politics, high level decision making positions.
The Joint Programme for Gender Equality (JPGE) led by Ministry of Women Affairs, Gender and Community Development (MWAGCD) in collaboration with UN Women, UNDP and ILO are implementing the JPGE through a number of Ministries, Government Bodies, and NGOs/CSOs.
The JPGE is an UN initiative led by UNWOMEN , which seeks to assist the Government of Zimbabwe to comply with key gender equality and women empowerment national , regional and international legal and policy frameworks.
JPGE Focus Areas
- Combating all forms of gender-based violence (led by UNFPA);
- Women’s political participation and influence (led by UNDP);
- Women’s economic empowerment and working conditions (led by ILO);
- National accountability on gender equality and women’s empowerment (led by UNWOMEN).
Focus Activities
- Finalize the development of the above-mentioned tools
- Conduct some advocacy training skills for female CSOs, Female politicians and representative of specialized CSOs using the advocacy tools developed in 2015
- Facilitation of consensus building gender equality and women’s economic and political empowerment regional and national dialogues through the Zimbabwe Gender Commission and documentation of these processes in a result based manner.
Eligibility Criteria
- UNDP intends to award to a well-established Academic Institution with strong relations with Government , all political parties , CSOs , Parliamentarians , Independent Commissions and other relevant stakeholders in the area of Women ‘s Political Participation.
- The Academic Institution must have a track record in coordinating consensus building of key stakeholders in the thematic area.
- The Institution must be able to put together a team of experts/researchers to undertake the project. The project team must have a Team Leader with qualifications and experiences as detailed below:
- Advanced University Degree in Social Science (Development studies, Gender or Women’s studies, Social Work, Economics, Law, Sociology and/or a closely related discipline). A PHD is preferred;
- A minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in international development work focused on, or strongly involving, women’s political participation and leadership and gender equality education, programming and policymaking at national, regional and international levels;
- Demonstrated experience in policy advisory services especially to key Governance Institutions;
- Experience in coordination of complex projects/assignments with very minimum supervision ;
- Experience in developing and facilitating gender equality and women‘s economic and political empowerment forums for learning, discussion and informing on legislative and policy reforms.
- Experience successfully developing complex programmes across the social , economic and political contexts or settings;
- Convening power across various stakeholders including political parties. CSOs, private sector etc.
- Skilled writer, researcher, facilitator and communicator, with experience drafting complex resolutions , declarations /call for action, facilitating gender equality and women ‘s empowerment forums.
- Experience working with or on projects with the United Nations will be an asset;
- Zimbabwean Experience required.
- International and Regional experience in gender equality and women empowerment an asset
- Language: Excellent written and spoken English and Knowledge of local languages required
