The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), Office of Justice Programs (OJP), National Institute of Justice (NIJ) is seeking applications for funding for innovative, multidisciplinary research projects to develop knowledge and tools to promote the safety, health, and wellness of law enforcement and corrections officers.
This solicitation seeks applications for funding to conduct innovative, multidisciplinary research projects to develop knowledge and tools to promote the safety, health, and wellness of the criminal and juvenile justice workforce and individuals under criminal justice supervision, as well as those in contact with, or affected by, the criminal justice system.
Objectives
- Support development, and promote strategies, policies, practices, and technologies that enhance the safety of criminal justice personnel.
- Develop policies, strategies, and technologies to promote safety in criminal justice interactions with the public.
- Promote research to improve the physical and mental health of individuals working in the criminal justice system.
- Study both trauma and suicide among criminal justice employees.
- Promote science-based tools and strategies to monitor physical and mental health.

Eligibility Criteria
- In general, NIJ is authorized to make grants to, or enter into contracts or cooperative agreements with eligible entities as listed:
- States (including territories);
- Units of local government;
- Federally recognized Indian tribal governments that perform law enforcement functions (as determined by the Secretary of the Interior);
- Nonprofit and for-profit organizations (including tribal nonprofit and for-profit organizations); and
- Institutions of higher education (including tribal institutions of higher education).
- Foreign governments, foreign organizations, and foreign colleges and universities are not eligible to apply. Federal agencies are eligible to apply. (Any award made to a federal agency will be made as an inter-agency reimbursable agreement.)
