The Auckland Council has launched the Upper Harbour Local Grant Programme.
Priorities
- They welcome grant applications that align and contribute to these priorities:
- community participation and wellbeing
- families
- newcomers
- sport and recreation
- the environment
- youth.
- Higher priority for eligibility
- They will prioritise activities that take place in the Upper Harbour Local Board area, or will benefit the local community.
- Lower priority for eligibility
- They will consider applications for other services and activities that may be identified as lower priority. including:
- legal costs
- salaries and wages
- schools and churches.
- They will consider applications for other services and activities that may be identified as lower priority. including:
Funding Information
- They will assess your application and decide how much funding they can contribute.
Outcomes
- Empowered, connected and resilient Upper Harbour communities e.g. community workshops, events and projects that help build connections and resilience across diverse communities including youth, newcomers, and seniors.
- Healthy and active communities e.g. Community Sports and Recreation including club and informal sport and recreation activities, events, facilities and equipment.
- Their unique natural environment is valued, protected and enhanced e.g. ecological restoration, projects that include indigenous or culturally valued biodiversity.
- A resilient local economy e.g. initiatives that eliminate waste and encourage reuse of resources, initiatives that grow local employment opportunities, projects that help enhance business resilience and youth entrepreneurship.

What they don’t Fund?
Projects that community grants don’t fund
- Community grants are not available for:
- debt servicing or repayment
- legal or medical expenses
- activities that promote religious ministry or political purposes
- public services that are the responsibility of central government, e.g. core education, health
- physical works (e.g. improvements to community buildings) before the appropriate consents have been obtained
- purchase of alcohol.
Projects that regional grants don’t fund
- In addition to the exclusions listed, they will also not fund:
- medical expenses
- travel and accommodation outside Auckland
- retrospective costs
- fundraising events or activities.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants with no legal structure applying for more than $1000 must nominate an umbrella organisation or apply to have their funding released upon receipt of accountability.
- Initiatives must fit with atleast one of the board’s priorities.
- Preference will be given to initiatives which take place in the Upper Harbour Local Board area and/or are of benefit to Upper Harbour Local Board residents.
