Deadline: 31 August 2018
The Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Livestock Systems funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is seeking applications for its Enhance and Alliance Projects to enhance the production, marketing, and consumption of animal-source foods (ASF) in the target countries in order to increase the incomes, livelihoods, nutrition, and health of households, especially those of vulnerable women and children.
Themes
- Integrate future livestock systems modeling
- Enhance gender dimensions
- Explore and enhance human nutrition and health impacts
- Analyze and develop policy dimensions
- Extend the scope to foster adoption and scaling
- Synthesize knowledge across projects to increase global impacts
Funding Information
- The total available funding is $850,000.
- For themes 1 to 4, the maximum available funding per proposal is $100,000, and for themes 5 and 6, the limits are $40,000 and $15,000, respectively.
Types of Projects
This Request for Applications is for two types of additional, complementary projects:
- Enhance projects: These projects will complement and add value to the existing Livestock Systems Innovation Lab projects in Burkina Faso, Niger, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Nepal and Cambodia.
- Eligibility to lead Enhance projects is restricted to lead institutions of existing Innovation Lab for Livestock Systems research projects or other Feed the Future Innovation Labs.
- Alliance projects: These projects are implemented by the National Agricultural Research Systems in Rwanda (Rwanda Agriculture Board, RAB) and in Nepal (National Agricultural Research Council, NARC) as lead institutions. Focus is on country-specific priority themes defined during the Livestock Systems Innovation Lab’s first Innovation Platform meetings in the respective countries, which also align with priorities of the research agency and USAID. Goats are the only livestock species that have been prioritized by USAID Nepal; therefore, the NARC Nepal proposal will need to focus on goats.
- Eligibility to lead the Alliance projects is restricted to the Rwanda Agriculture Board and the National Agricultural Research Council, Nepal.
Eligibility Criteria
- Eligibility to lead Enhance projects is restricted to lead institutions of existing Innovation Lab for Livestock Systems research projects or other Feed the Future Innovation Labs. This restriction is to ensure these projects have sufficient time to complete the proposed work and are not delayed by negotiations between institutions during the contracting stage. The lead institutions may partner with any organizations they chose, as long as the research consortium fulfills the conditions.
- Eligibility to lead the Alliance projects is restricted to the Rwanda Agriculture Board and the National Agricultural Research Council, Nepal. Most of the project funds (at least 80%) should be retained by these institutions, but they should partner with UF or ILRI researchers for capacity building in conduct of the research. UF or ILRI researchers will work with the PIs to address all queries posed by the Technical Evaluation Panel, the External Advisory Board and USAID on the Alliance proposals and collaborate with them to implement the research.
