The United States Agency for International Development (USAID)/Uganda Rights and Rule of Law (RRL), implemented by Freedom House (FH) is seeking proposals for a program entitled “Advancing Human Rights for Key Populations in Uganda”.
The Activity seeks to advance and protect socio-economic development through support to national-level structures that uphold respect for human rights and rule of law in Uganda.
Objectives
The specific objectives of the Uganda Rights & Rule of Law Activity are as follows:
- Improve judicial independence;
- Improve promotion of human rights protection by civil society organizations (CSOs); and
- Enhance media reporting on human rights accountability
The past decade or so has seen the protection of human rights of key populations world-over come to the forefront of human rights based programming internationally. This development has had ripple effects that have been and continue to be felt across the continent and on a more domestic level; Uganda. The RRL Activity seeks proposals from CSOs for critical interventions that advance human rights protection and promotion for key populations in Uganda. Interventions that this fund will support include; public outreach activities and participation of civil society actors in key regional dialogues on human rights and key populations aimed at fostering networking and peer learning to combat violence.
Funding Information
- The maximum funding an organization may request under this call is USD 30,000.
- Budgeted costs should correspond to proposed activities, with an implementation period of up to six months.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicant organizations must meet the following criteria:
- Legally registered in Uganda;
- Mandated (according to their visions and missions) to handle matters relating to the fields they intend to operate in;
- Demonstrated experience in implementing human rights or rule of law activities;
- Non-governmental and not-for-profit;
- Not political parties or politically affiliated organizations;
- Never convicted or currently the subject of any legal proceedings related to the mismanagement of funds; not bankrupt.
