The USAID-funded Afghan Civic Engagement Program (ACEP), Counterpart International, Inc. (Counterpart) is seeking applications for its Men Supporting Women Rights Grant to encourage and pave the way for furthering men’s support to women’s empowerment and women’s rights achievement.
Objectives
- Form and/or support male advocacy groups who advocate for women’s rights and women leadership within communities;
- Develop male-led advocacy campaigns directed towards other men including the distribution of woman positive promotion material in male only spaces (e.g. snooker halls; tea shops; shopping spaces; etc.);
- Encourage men to join with female women’s rights activists to fight for women’s empowerment and rights;
- Organise awareness-raising and/or discussion events for groups of men including youth, elders, brothers and fathers, community and religious leaders, etc.;
- Organize media roundtables to encourage male journalists, editors, program producers and the like to reflect women’s voices, needs and interesting in their reporting and programming;
- Organize groups of men to advocate against violence toward women, this could include male perpetrators of violence who have reformed;
- Celebrate and recognise men who in their communities – at the local and provincial level or on the national stage – have stood up for women’s empowerment and rights achievement. Perhaps having protected a woman from domestic violence in their community or advocated for gender equity in national legislation.
Grant Information
The FAA grant shall be for up to six (6) months (March 2017 – August 2017) and cannot exceed Afghani AFN 2,000,000 (USD $30,000).
Eligibility Criteria
Counterpart will accept applications from organizations that meet the following eligibility requirements:
- Applicants must be an Afghan Civil Society Organization, holding valid registration certificates from the Ministry of Economy and/or the Ministry of Justice, should be formally constituted, recognized by and in good standing with appropriate Government authorities, have its principle place of business in the recipient country, and compliant with all applicable civil and fiscal regulations.
- Possess an understanding of involving men to advocate for women rights concept in Afghanistan
- Include youth and people living with disabilities in activities and as beneficiaries;
- Ensure that the outcomes of the activities implemented under the grant are sustainable;
- Work in coordination and cooperation with other organizations and relevant government bodies, as is appropriate.
