Deadline: 14 March 2019
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) is seeking applications for its 2019 Small Business Innovation Research Program Phase II.
The purpose of the SBIR Program is to strengthen the role of innovative small business concerns (SBCs) in Federally-funded research or research and development (R/R&D). Specific program purposes are to:
- stimulate technological innovation;
- use small business to meet Federal R/R&D needs;
- foster and encourage participation by socially and economically disadvantaged small businesses (SDBs), and by women-owned small businesses (WOSBs), in technological innovation;
- increase private sector commercialization of innovations derived from Federal R/R&D, thereby increasing competition, productivity and economic growth.
USDA SBIR’s flexible research areas ensure innovative projects consistent with USDA’s vision of a healthy and productive nation in harmony with the land, air, and water. USDA SBIR has awarded over 2000 research and development projects since 1983, allowing hundreds of small businesses to explore their technological potential and providing an incentive to profit from the commercialization of innovative ideas.

Phase II awards will not exceed $600,000 for a period of 24 months with a start date of September 1, 2018. There is no commitment by USDA to fund any particular application or to make a specific number of awards.
