The Voices Gloucester has announced the Community Grant Programme to celebrate everyone’s history, tell stories and help them see the city’s history, places and people in new ways.
Voices Gloucester is a community led programme of events from individuals and organisations across the city designed to bring to life the culture and heritage of the communities around them.
Voices Gloucester wants to support:
- Projects about Gloucester’s amazing history, heritage and culture. They want to celebrate everyone’s history
- Opportunities for communities, artists and organisations to work together (co-creation)
- Projects that connect with younger people and those who may not usually go and see cultural or heritage events
- Projects that happen in heritage sites that are not in the City Centre – a good place to look for these spaces is the
- Gloucester local list Gloucester Draft Local List 2022

Eligibility Criteria
- They are interested in applications from anybody, as long as they demonstrate clear links to Gloucester communities, culture and heritage.
- The programme opens for applications every six months.
- They’ve aimed to keep the application form as simple as possible to break down any barriers to applying. They realise that text-based applications do not suit everyone, so if you would like to apply in a different way, for example via video or audio, or require this information in a different format, please get in touch with them.
- In addition, they offer advice sessions to anyone interested in applying, to provide support with developing your idea, connect you with potential project partners, and in writing/making your application.
- They particularly welcome applications from people who are currently underrepresented in the UK arts and heritage sectors, including those who identify as D/deaf, disabled, neurodivergent, LGBTQIA+, those from lower socio-economic backgrounds or living or working in areas of socio-economic deprivation, and those who experience racism.
- Please note that you will be asked to complete an anonymous equal opportunities form as part of your application. This is because they’re asked to provide this information to their funders (for their monitoring purposes only) and it will be kept only as long as necessary and never passed onto any other parties.
Selection Process
- Applications are reviewed by their Community Panel which is made up of representatives from across the city, including those from local community groups, arts, and heritage organisations. Your contact details will be removed from the application to ensure it remains anonymous during this process. The panel score each project against the following criteria;
- Community Engagement
- History/ Heritage content or links
- Quality of product or process
- Ability to deliver project as described
- Added value/ long term potential
- This will be followed by a session with the panel and the core team to ensure that they choose a good range of events and outcomes.
- If your project is successful they will support you throughout delivery including connecting you with relevant partners, with marketing and with all administrative and financial aspects. For example, if as a result of receiving a grant you need to register as self-employed, they can help you through this process.
- If unsuccessful they offer feedback to assist with future applications, and where relevant will connect you with other partners that they feel might be a better fit for you. If they feel your project is a good fit for Voices Gloucester but needs a little tweaking they will help you to develop it for resubmission.
