Voice is currently inviting applications from groups or organisations for its Kenya Empowerment Grants to raise awareness develop transformative leadership, build confidence and skills and work against stigmatisation of marginalised and discriminated groups.
Empowerment of excluded groups and individuals involves the redistribution of power, so that it accumulates in the hands of marginalised and discriminated groups in society. They must have the confidence to engage and interact with each other as well as in public, and build mutual trust while acknowledging their differences.
Funding Information
- In Kenya, empowerment grants are available from €5,000 up to €25,000 on a rolling basis.
- Empowerment grants are smaller grants with a maximum timeframe of 24 months.

- Improved access to (productive) resources (finance, land and water) and employment
- Improved access to social services, health and education in particular
- Fostering space for political participation
Target Groups
- People living with disabilities
- Women facing exploitation, abuse and violence
- Age-discriminated vulnerable groups, notably the young elderly
- Indigenous groups and ethnic minorities
Eligibility Criteria
- Applications can only be submitted by organsations which process legal registration and a bank account in the applicant’s name.
- Organisations can independently submit a grant application or form part of a consortium in a joint application.
- A consortium is a cooperative of two or more civil society organisations, which implements a joint, integrated project in which all parties contribute to the total.
- Applications may also include activities to strengthen the capacity of the organisation.

Note: Review cycles will take place starting 1 June 2017 and 1 October 2017. This means anything submitted before that date will be reviewed as part of that review cycle, anything after will be reviewed during the next cycle.
