William T. Grant Foundation is seeking applications from US organizations for its research grants to support high-quality research that is relevant to policies and practices that affect the lives of young people ages 5 to 25 in the United States.

Grant Information
- Research grants on reducing inequality typically range from $100,000 to $600,000 and cover two to three years of support.
- Improving the use of research evidence grants will range from $100,000 to $1,000,000 and cover two to four years of support.
- Officers’ Research grants for both initiatives cover budgets up to $25,000.
Funding Criteria
- Projects must be aligned with one of the Foundation’s current research focus areas.
- Projects should demonstrate sound theoretical grounding, sophisticated conceptualization, and relevance to policy or practice.
- Projects should employ rigorous methods that are commensurate with the proposal’s goals.
- Research plans must demonstrate feasibility.
Evaluation Criteria
- Research project advances the Foundation’s interests in understanding programs, policies, and practices that reduce inequality or improving the use of research evidence.
- Research project has compelling relevance for programs, policies, and practices affecting youth ages 5-25 in the U.S.
- Funds primarily support research activities, not intervention or service costs.
- Applicant is employed at a tax-exempt organization.

- Grants are made to organizations, not individuals.
- Research project has compelling relevance for programs, policies, and practices affecting youth ages 5-25 in the U.S.
- Funds primarily support research activities, not intervention or service costs.
- Grants are limited, without exception, to tax-exempt organizations. A copy of the Internal Revenue Service tax exempt status determination letter is required from each applying organization.
- Institutions usually have their own eligibility criteria regarding who can act as Principal Investigator (PI) on a grant. This often excludes graduate students.
- Graduate students can, however, be listed as Co-Principal Investigators.
