The World Food Programme has launched a new initiative to strengthen food security and agricultural development in Burkina Faso’s Sahel region, focusing on the Soum area.
The program aims to demonstrate WFP’s experience and capacity in promoting agricultural and agro-industrial equipment for the benefit of local artisans and other stakeholders in the agricultural value chain, ensuring that interventions are sustainable and locally driven.
This initiative aligns with the Government of Burkina Faso’s national vision of fostering local expertise in agricultural and agro-industrial technologies. By supporting local capacity building, the program reinforces national priorities, including the objectives outlined in the National Strategic Framework, various sectoral programs and projects, national system strengthening, and the agro-pastoral offensive for food sovereignty.
Through this call for proposals, WFP seeks a partner organization, such as an NGO or development association, with experience in agricultural and agri-food production technology development. The selected partner will work to enhance the technical, organizational, and material capacities of local producer organizations, helping small-scale farmers improve both agricultural productivity and quality of agri-food processing.
The partner will provide hands-on support to producers, strengthen their organizational structures, and foster skills development to ensure sustainable growth. Eligible organizations must be duly registered in Burkina Faso and operational in the targeted intervention areas. This initiative represents a critical step toward empowering local communities, enhancing food security, and promoting sustainable agricultural practices in the Sahel region.
