Applicants are invites to apply for the Fund for scientific research on AIDS which is managed by the King Baudouin Foundation with the help of an international scientific jury and a management committee.
The Fund promotes both, high level research and training of young researchers by providing financial support to research projects with a maximum duration of 3 years. The Fund has been created to support research on AIDS in Belgium, in 3 important domains:
- translational research in virology
- epidemiology
- prevention and health promotion
Subject of the call
- In 2019, the Fund will award a grant of € 300.000 to support one project on remission of HIV infection, including basic, translational and clinical aspects.
- The project must be submitted by a multidisciplinary and multicenter consortium including researchers in basic science (virology, immunology, etc ….), and clinical research scientists; researchers in the field of psychosocial aspects can also be included.
By launching this call, the Fund wants to encourage research teams from different universities and institutions to develop joined efforts on the search for a remission of HIV infection. This should be obtained by synergizing and bridging efforts among different research stakeholders active in Belgium and recognized for their expertise in the field of HIV including basic researchers, clinical virologists, immunologists, clinicians and any other actors, such as professionals in the field of psychosocial sciences.
Grant Information
- A single not divisible grant of € 300.000 will be issued in 2019.
- The support can be used for all expenditures related to the selected project: salaries, equipment, materials and supplies.
- The project must be introduced by one single project leader. In case of granting the contract will be established with that PL. The collaborating teams will be asked to make a Memorandum of Understanding on the collaboration and the internal distribution of the money.
- If any overhead should be taken on this grant, this can’t exceed 15%.
Eligible Applicants
The call is open to researchers from universities and research centers in Belgium.
Selection Criteria
- Scientific quality of the project
- Quality of the research design: the study design should give clear answers to the research questions proposed, statistics, sample calculations, clear timeline…
- Feasibility of the project
- The project should be introduced by a multidisciplinary group coming from different universities and institutions
- Track record of the lead-applicant and of the co-applicants
- Potential of the leading research team to manage a multidisciplinary and multicenter project
- Adequacy of the budget: the proposed costs of the research are reasonable and commensurate with the work involved.
- In order to fulfil the translational aspects, the project should clearly identify the potential impact of the results on their clinical relevance and applicability.
