Deadline: 28-Jan-2026
The Novo Nordisk Foundation invites accomplished clinical doctors to apply for the Borregaard Clinical Ascending Investigator Grant, designed to strengthen Danish clinical and translational research and support the next generation of outstanding clinical research leaders.
The focus of this grant is to promote and strengthen Danish clinical and translational research at a high international level and to stimulate the continued development of excellent clinical research leaders. The Borregaard Clinical Ascending Investigator profile supports excellent and independent research active clinicians employed in full-time clinical positions throughout the entire 5-year project period. The grant provides half-time substitute replacement salary from the clinical obligations for five years, enabling qualified researchers to dedicate half of their time to research while remaining 50% associated with clinical work throughout the entire 5-year grant period.
A total of up to DKK 44 million is available for this call, with grants ranging between DKK 8,000,000 and DKK 11,000,000 for projects lasting five years. Up to four grants will be awarded, supporting projects that are anchored at a Danish university, hospital, or other non-profit research institution.
Eligible applicants must be medical doctors holding a PhD or a dr. med. degree and must be qualified specialist physicians employed full-time at a Danish hospital. Applicants should be at the associate professor level or possess equivalent qualifications. Professors, including clinical professors, are not eligible for this specific grant but may apply under the Foundation’s Clinical Distinguished Investigator scheme. Applicants are required to secure institutional support from both the head of their clinical department and the department hosting the research.
The Borregaard Clinical Ascending Investigator Grant is an individual award intended to empower the applicant to lead their own research. Collaborative projects are permitted, provided the applicant remains the principal driver of the project. Co-applicants cannot be registered for this specific call.
This initiative provides a significant platform for talented clinicians to pursue ambitious research while maintaining their vital connection to clinical practice, contributing to the advancement of Danish medical science at an international standard.
