The Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy Kuala Lumpur has announced an open competition for organizations to submit proposals to carry out a program in Malaysia to further research violent extremism in Southeast Asia and to create linkages between academic institutions in SE Asia and researchers in the United States.
Program Objectives
In order to expand effectiveness in working against violent extremism by promoting international academic collaboration,the program should partner a U.S. academic institution or affiliated research group with a Malaysian university or university-affiliated institution that is engaged in research on violent extremism in SE Asia and/or plans to develop an academic program related to countering violent extremism.
Specific Objectives:
- Assessment of the Malaysian partner’s ongoing activities, capabilities and program with the goal of integrating the Malaysian partner’s analysis and findings into the global research community at a level which meets internationally accepted standards and norms.
- Collaborative research project jointly led by the U.S. and Malaysian institutions.
- The project should involve researchers from other Malaysian universities/institutions not currently affiliated with the Malaysian partner.
- The proposal should include a regional component involving universities/researchers in Indonesia, the Philippines, and Thailand. This regional aspect could be achieved by inviting participants from those countries to jointhe collaborative research project or by hosting exchanges and workshops.
Travel: Proposals should include travel costs associated with each reporting tour and include management of travel and lodging logistics. Proposals must show how grant funds will be used to cover the cost of the transportation, visas, travel insurance, lodging, and meals or per diem for eligible participants. All travel funded under the grant agreement should be economy class and must comply with Fly America requirements.
