The Program “Human Rights and Justice” which is jointly prepared by the United Nations Development Program project in Ukraine and the International Renaissance Foundation (IRF) are seeking proposals for a program entitled “Overcoming impunity for massive human rights violations and other international crimes committed in an armed conflict”.
Objectives
The objective of the competition is to support civil society organizations in monitoring and documenting mass violations of human rights and other international crimes in order to:
- Providing unbiased information to national and international institutions on the facts of mass violations of human rights and international humanitarian law committed in the context of armed conflict, in particular in uncontrolled areas of the Ukrainian government;
- Facilitating the investigation of mass violations of human rights and international humanitarian law at the national and international levels;
- Protection and restoration of violated rights, ensuring the inevitability of punishment for war crimes, crimes against humanity.
Funding Information
- The total budget of the contest is UAH 3 300 000.
- The maximum budget of the project proposal should exceed – 700 000 UAH.
- The maximum project term is 12 months.
Priorities
- Development of the capacity of civic organizations in documenting and analyzing the information (evidence base) on mass violations of human rights and other international crimes;
- Develop and implement a strategy of advocacy for the protection and restoration of violated rights, conducting educational and information campaigns on human rights and international humanitarian law among authorized actors responsible for the protection of human rights and among citizens;
- Building effective cooperation with national and international bodies for investigating crimes committed in the context of an armed conflict, in particular in uncontrolled areas of the Ukrainian government;
- Promoting the implementation of the norms of international human rights law and international humanitarian law into Ukrainian legislation;
- Analysis and evaluation of the state’s activities in documenting and investigating human rights violations, war crimes, crimes against humanity; development and dissemination of recommendations to state authorities on optimization of investigations.
Eligibility Criteria
- To participate in the competition are invited: non-profit organizations, in particular charitable organizations, public associations (including public organizations and unions) that are officially registered in Ukraine and have experience in human rights activities.
- The contest does not provide grants to lucrative organizations, political parties, state authorities, local governments, religious communities and private (physical) individuals and entrepreneurs.
