Deadline: 30 May 2019
The Public Affairs Section (PAS) of the U.S. Embassy in Tbilisi has announced an open competition for a Media Educational Program (MEP).
U.S. media and non-profit/non-governmental organizations may submit proposals to manage a year-long project to support the professional development of freshly-graduated young Georgian journalists, newcomers to the digital journalism craft who are committed to professional development and are working for multi-platform operated media organizations – be they broadcasters, newspapers or news-agencies.
MEP should enhance the overall professional development of recently graduated journalists with a primary focus on the development of their digital media skills and tools. This program will develop professional skills for digital operation and teach modern standards of multi-platform convergence media operations to digital reporters or/and those who aspire to develop as digital reporters, broadcasters, newspapers and news agencies that are already operating online platforms or which are in the process of becoming multi-platform media outlets in Georgia. Participants will explore operational and business practices, marketing tools, media trends, and journalistic standards of digital media in the United State.
The objectives of this project are: to support the professional development of recent graduates practicing in digital media or trying to do so; to facilitate media organizations to become sustainable through adopting necessary digital media tools and operational practices through professional study tours and internships at U.S. media outlets. The latter will be offered to several proficient English-speaking participants of the tour. U.S. applicants must have a demonstrated expertise in developing and implementing programs related to digital journalism training, designing and carrying-out short-term training seminars, study tours for young journalists, and organizing internships at U.S. multiplatform media outlets. The U.S. Embassy intends for MEP 2019 participants to complete their tour feeling confident that the combination of schooling, real-world experience and knowledge gained in the United States will help them operate as determined/motivated multimedia journalists capable to produce pieces for any media outlet.
