The Public Diplomacy Section (PDS) of the U.S. Embassy in Uruguay announces its rolling call for proposals to fund projects that advance the Embassy’s strategic priorities.
Together with the U.S. Embassy in Montevideo, Alianza Cultural Uruguay-Estados Unidos is the partner organization responsible for managing the financing and reporting for selected projects.
Priority Themes
- Projects should strengthen one or more of the following priorities:
- Uruguay´s economy. Projects may include those that aim to make the economy more diverse, resilient, sensitive to the environment, and/or that extend opportunities to rural, vulnerable, or underserved communities. Projects may include but are not limited to topics such as: English language learning, Information Communication and Technology (ICTs), Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM), combating climate change or attitudinal changes that promote environmental conservation, and developing or supporting entrepreneurship.
- Democracy. Projects may promote or defend human rights and the rule of law, support freedom of information and independent media, strengthen democratic ideas and values, promote accountability and transparency, strengthen civil society organizations, promote civic education, and promote freedom of association. This may include prioritizing the diversity and inclusion of rural communities, vulnerable or underrepresented populations in areas of civil society, advocating for human rights, fighting corruption, and/or media literacy skills and knowledge about phenomenon of disinformation.
- Local, regional, and global security. Projects may include strengthening public order and safety, resilience against violence and drug trafficking in populations at risk and increased cyber-security measures. Projects may focus on prison system reform, combatting drug trafficking in populations at risk and/or programs or exchanges designed to strengthening cybersecurity.
Funding Information
- Eligible proposals may apply for a maximum of US$ 50,000 (fifty thousand dollars) per project.
Eligibility Criteria
- Public Diplomacy funds are subject to statutory authorities that restrict the eligibility and purposes of applicants and projects.
- Eligible entities include non-profit organizations, think tanks, civil society, cultural associations, artists, government agencies, educational institutions, etc. For-profit entities are strictly prohibited from receiving these funds.
- Programs that are NOT eligible for funding include, but are not limited to:
- Social welfare projects (acts of charity), primary beneficiary is only one entity or individual, scientific research, projects that are inherently political in nature or that contain the appearance of partisanship/support to individual or single party electoral campaigns, exchange programs with countries other than the U.S. and Uruguay, programs focused on children under 14 years of age, support for specific religious activities, construction programs, vehicle purchases, for-profit endeavors; or fund-raising campaigns.
