This call aims to invite civil society organizations working in the field of elections, electoral education, local governance and civics, gender equality, inclusion of minority groups and youth participation to submit awareness-raising project proposals to contribute to these efforts.
The initiatives will aim to raise public awareness and encourage individuals, organizations and other actors to take action to strengthen local democracy and promote an inclusive and peaceful environment in Madagascar.
Objectives
- General objective: Promote and increase the participation of young people in the upcoming local and municipal elections in order to strengthen their involvement and their confidence in the country’s democratic and political system, thus contributing to a more inclusive and representative democracy.
- Specific objectives:
- Carry out awareness campaigns and civic/electoral education.
- Promote the participation of young and female first-time voters and voters through activities of informative and educational campaigns.
- Encourage youth leadership and commitment to non-violence.
- Disseminate information and messages in favor of youth participation in elections.
- Support CSO initiatives in favor of citizenship and youth voting.
- Support activities adapted to local realities, involving young people as active citizens and voters.
Funding Information
- The maximum amount awarded is $13,000.
Geographic Focus
- The activities must be concentrated mainly in the following regions: Analamanga, Bongolava, Itasy, Vakinankaratra, Diana, Sava, Amoroni Mania, Haute Matsiatra, Ihorombe, Fitovinany, Betsiboka, Boeny, Melaky, Sofia, Alaotra-Mangoro, Analanjirofo, Eastinsanana , South-West and Menabe.
Target groups or beneficiaries
- The programme is aimed at young people, organised or not, particularly women, in the 18-35 age group. The proposal should include a realistic number of people to be reached, with a description of the expected impact and indicators.
Expected Results
- Conduct awareness campaigns and civic/electoral education. A high percentage of young people made aware of the importance of electoral and civic participation, measured by post-campaign surveys.
- Promote the participation of young first-time voters and voters through information and educational campaign activities. Increase in the participation rate of young first-time voters in elections, demonstrated by electoral statistics.
- Encourage youth leadership and engagement in non-violence. Reducing incidents of violence involving youth during elections, with reports on awareness-raising actions and training in peaceful leadership.
- Disseminate information and messages in support of youth participation in elections.
Eligibility Criteria
- The call for proposals is open to all Malagasy civil society organizations registered in accordance with current legislation and engaged in the following areas:
- Elections
- Civic and electoral education
- Human rights
- Local governance
- Gender equality
- Civic participation of young people
- Selected proposals should include elements of innovation and new methods to engage youth and promote civil rights, democratic values and impact, with a focus on the culture of peace.
