The Sustainable Together Fashion Call for Proposals is supported by the Goethe-Institut’s Sustainable Together Programme, in partnership with the British Council.
Sustainable Together 2022-23 will focus on Sustainable Fashion creating linkages to decolonisation and fashion, circular economies, waste management and textile, and whereby themes as climate change, environment, and indigenous knowledge remain relevant for the project.
Aims
- The Sustainable Together Fashion Call for proposals is seeking innovative collaborative projects aiming to:
- Pilot novel processes to create a product, service or business model with scale-up potential for sustainable or circular fashion.
- Conduct research geared towards eco-system mapping, peer-to-peer learning and community building.

- Physical and/or hybrid presentation of their R&D in the last month of the programme.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants can be micro, small and medium-sized organisations and enterprises with focus on the fashion sectors (textiles, clothing, footwear, leather and accessories), artist collectives, designers and Start-ups. Academia and Technology Centres are eligible only as partners.
- Applications must be a partnership between one (1) applicant from South Africa, as lead applicant, and at least one (1) applicant from Ghana, Kenya, UK or Germany. They do welcome more than 2 applicants to also apply.
- The lead applicant must be based in South Africa and have been in business for at least 2 years.
- Applicants must provide evidence of true collaboration, knowledge exchange and mutual benefit for all partners in their application.
- Applicants must demonstrate the ability to deliver the project activity between October 2022 and February 2022 (including a provisional plan for in person and/or online delivery due to Covid-19).
- Applicants must have a work environment that allows digital and hybrid collaborations.
Application Criteria
- The proposals shall highlight the interest and expected outcomes of the collaborative partnership within the region and abroad.
- The outcomes should be able to reach a wider audience through sharing and archiving innovative approaches and good practices.
- The projects shall include community outreach work to open up discussions and opportunities among local communities in the respective countries.
- Design and host a public or hybrid event presenting the research & development (R&D) and findings following the grant aim.
