The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has announced a call for proposals to support projects led by refugees, asylum seekers, beneficiaries of temporary protection, or stateless persons in Bulgaria with technical assistance and small grants.
How will UNHCR support the selected organizations?
- In Bulgaria, UNHCR will select proposals for small projects to be implemented in 2024 by organizations led by refugees or stateless persons, or by civil society organizations The requirements are simplified to support community organizations, run by refugees, asylum seekers and stateless persons.
- They can provide financial support up to a maximum of BGN 22,000 (in case the proposal is approved), provide advice or training on how to increase your impact and strengthen your organization and/or help you connect with other stakeholders, which can support your work. Their aim is to help your organization grow, build its operational capacity for future activities and provide more and better support to the people you help by agreeing a support plan with the selected organisations.
- Even if your organization is not selected for a grant, they may later announce new grant opportunities or contact you to discuss together whether there are other ways they can support you. If you want to work with them, don’t hesitate to register.
Activities
- In general, in 2024, UNHCR is interested in supporting community-based activities related to, for example:
- Access to accurate and reliable information
- Advocacy for rights, including the rights of children, people with disabilities or elderly.
- Welfare, especially psychosocial support in the community
- Women’s organization and empowerment
- Activities that aim to prevent or protect against gender-based violence against women and girls and others, or to raise awareness of wrongdoing such as sexual exploitation or abuse, or human trafficking.
- Access to aid
- Community mobilization and empowerment to promote equal access to rights and services
- Non-discrimination and social inclusion, including through art and sport
- Language assistance in Bulgarian
- Support for children and youth, including community childcare and activities aimed at the socio-cultural development of children and youth engagement in the community
- Access to education, including community support for the education of the children
Eligibility Criteria
- Your organization can apply if it meets these requirements:
- You are an official or unofficial organization that works in Bulgaria,
- The management of the organization is mainly made up of refugees, asylum seekers, persons benefiting from temporary protection, or stateless persons,
- The activities of the organization are to support refugees, asylum seekers, persons benefiting from temporary protection or stateless persons by providing them with assistance or services or promoting their rights.
- Also, yours
- An organization is legally registered in Bulgaria, or
- The organization is registered in another country (subject to compliance with the requirements for payment of the grants), or
- One of the members of the management board or your management has legal status in Bulgaria.
