The Office of Science of the Department of Energy is currently inviting applications for its Early Career Research Program with an aim to support the development of individual research programs of outstanding scientists early in their careers and to stimulate research careers in the areas supported by the DOE Office of Science.
Program Areas
- Advanced Scientific Computing Research (ASCR);
- Biological and Environmental Research (BER);
- Basic Energy Sciences (BES), Fusion Energy Sciences (FES);
- High Energy Physics (HEP), Nuclear Physics (NP).
Funding Information
While the minimum award size is $750,000, DOE expects the typical award size will be $750,000 over five years.
Eligibility Criteria
- Only U.S. academic institutions are eligible to apply.
- Other Federal agencies, Federally Funded Research and Development Center (FFRDC) Contractors, and nonprofit organizations described in section 501(c)(4) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 that engaged in lobbying activities after December 31, 1995 are not eligible to apply.
- The Principal Investigator must be an untenured Assistant Professor on the tenure track or an untenured Associate Professor on the tenure track at a U.S. academic institution as of the deadline for the application.
- No more than ten (10) years can have passed between the year the Principal Investigator’s Ph.D. was awarded and the year of the deadline for the application.
- For the present competition, those who received doctorates no earlier than 2006 are eligible.
- There can be no co-Principal Investigators.
- Each Principal Investigator may only submit one Office of Science Early Career Research Program application per annual competition.
- Additionally, a Principal Investigator may not participate in more than three Office of Science Early Career Research Program competitions.
