Kyoto World Water Grand Prize 2024

The Japan Water Forum invites applications for the Kyoto World Water Grand Prize 2024 to honor a distinguished organization involved in grass-roots activities related to solving water problems in developing countries.
It also aims to improve the quality of grass-roots activities and make the importance of such activities known throughout the world. Any non-profit organization based in a developing country, which is involved in grass-roots activities aimed at solving water problems through measures consistent with local cultures.
Japan Water Forum Fund 2023

Submissions are now open for the Japan Water Forum (JWF) Fund 2023 to solve local water-related issues in developing countries by assisting the implementation of sustainable solutions led by grass-roots organizations.
Considering that clean water, sanitation and hygiene play a vital role in preventing infectious diseases including COVID-19, Japan Water Forum will highly appreciate proposals of water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) projects. They value the projects which utilize local resources, knowledge and technologies, and establish a sustainable operation and maintenance scheme.
“Youth Leader Fund for a World Without Nuclear Weapons” Learning Programme

The United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA) and the government of Japan are calling on young people to apply for an innovative learning programme “Youth Leader Fund for a World Without Nuclear Weapons”.
The new learning programme is aimed at equipping the leaders of the future with the knowledge, skills, and network to join global efforts to eliminate nuclear weapons – the most dangerous weapons on earth.
Call for Applications: Nippon Foundation Fellowship Programme

The Division for Ocean Affairs and the Law of the Sea of the Office of Legal Affairs of the United Nations (“OLA/DOALOS”), is now accepting applications for the 2024 session of the United Nations – The Nippon Foundation Fellowship Programme.
The objective of the Nippon Foundation Fellowship is to provide funded opportunities for advanced training in the field of ocean affairs and the law of the sea, or related disciplines including marine science in support of management frameworks, to mid-level Government officials and other mid-level professionals from developing States so that they may obtain the necessary skills to assist their countries in the implementation of the legal framework set out in the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), and related instruments, as well as to formulate comprehensive ocean management regimes, including within the context of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The Global Development Awards Competition 2023 Edition is back!

Nominations are now open for the Global Development Awards Competition, an innovative award scheme administered by GDN, funded under the Policy and Human Resources Development Fund (PHRD) trust fund managed by the World Bank, and generously supported by the Ministry of Finance, Government of Japan.
The theme of the 2023 edition is ‘Nexus of Education, Development and Human Security’.
The awards recognize excellence in policy-oriented research, supports research capacity development of researchers in low and middle income countries and funds innovative social development projects benefiting marginalized groups in the developing world.

CEPF giving Large Grants to address the Conservation of Biodiversity

The Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF) is releasing a call for Letters of Inquiry (LoIs) for organizations that address the conservation of biodiversity in light of climate change in the Madagascar and the Indian Ocean Islands Biodiversity Hotspot.
The CEPF is a joint initiative of l’Agence Française de Développement (AFD), Conservation International, the European Union, the Global Environment Facility, the Government of Japan and the World Bank. A fundamental goal is to ensure civil society is engaged in biodiversity conservation.

Call for Proposals: Financing Programme for JCM Model Projects in Japan

The Global Environment Centre Foundation (GEC) as an implementing organization for the Financing Programme for Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) Model Projects in FY2023, is soliciting the project proposals for the financing programme.
The purpose of this model project is to financially support the implementation of projects which reduce GHG emissions by utilizing leading decarbonizing technologies in developing and other countries, and in return seeks to acquire JCM credits for achievement of Japan’s GHG emission reduction target.

Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects in Armenia

The Embassy of Japan in Armenia has announced the Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) that support NGOs and local public institutions in order to respond to various development needs in a prompt and precise manner, but on a comparatively small scale.
The GGP aims to achieve economic and social development in developing countries based on the philosophy of human security, and provide the necessary funding for relatively small-scale activities in a way that directly benefits inhabitants at the grass-roots level. It is commonly referred to as “KUSANONE” in Japan. “Kusa” means “grass” and “Ne” means “roots” in Japanese.
