Participants are selected on the basis of their previous work experience in human rights, commitment to the human rights field, and demonstrated ability to pursue graduate-level studies. The 2023 Mark Palmer Prize: Call for Nominations

Freedom House is soliciting nominations for the 2023 Mark Palmer Prize, which recognizes exceptional achievements to protect and advance democracy by diplomats and officials serving in intergovernmental institutions.
The award takes its name from the late Mark Palmer, a longtime Freedom House trustee and US ambassador to Hungary from 1986 to 1990. In 1989, as the Cold War was coming to a close, Palmer boldly joined civil society and the Hungarian democratic opposition to support the country’s transition to democracy.
The Mark Palmer Prize has been awarded to diplomats and international civil servants from around the world, including Peru, the Czech Republic, Lithuania, Mongolia, Sweden, Canada, Uruguay, and the United States. The prize is made possible through the generosity of the Mark and Sushma Palmer Legacy Fund, established by Sushma Palmer in loving memory of her late husband and former Freedom House trustee Ambassador Mark Palmer.

The International Service for Human Rights (ISHR) conducts regular training courses on the use of the main human rights mechanisms, including the Human Rights Council, the UN Special Procedures, the UN Treaty Bodies and the Universal Periodic Review (UPR). The annual Human Rights Defenders Advocacy Programme, (HRDAP) equips human rights defenders with the knowledge and skills to integrate the system into their existing work at the national level in a strategic manner.

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) invites applications from eligible universities around the world for the 2023-2024 Judicial Fellowship Programme (formerly known as the University Traineeship Programme).
The Programme was established in 1999 to enable recent law graduates to gain professional experience working at the ICJ. The Fellowship Programme aims to improve participants’ understanding of public international law and of the Court’s procedures by actively involving them in the work of the Court and allowing them to build on their experience under the supervision of a judge.
The Judicial Fellows work on a full-time basis under the supervision of a Member of the Court and alongside the primary legal assistant of the judge. The Judicial Fellows can expect to attend the Court’s public hearings, research and write memorandums on legal questions or factual aspects of the cases pending before the Court, and perform other duties assigned by their judge.
Purpose
- The purpose of the trust fund is to grant fellowship awards to selected candidates who are nationals of developing countries from universities based in developing countries, thereby improving and guaranteeing the geographic and linguistic diversity of the participants in the Programme.

Leaders are selected through a competitive, open recruitment process. There are 25 Leaders per annual cohort broken into 4 regional groupings. Though there is no age requirement, Leaders are typically between the ages of 25 and 40. Leaders should possess a strong track record of serving a cause greater than oneself as well as experience working directly on the global theme of defending democracy. CCP Fellowships: Strenghtening Civil Societies

The Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen (ifa) has launched the CrossCulture Programme (CCP) Fellowships for Strenghtening Civil Societies.
With the CCP Fellowships, funds professionals and committed volunteers from up to 40 countries each year. During two to three months of work-related stays in host organisations in Germany or CCP partner countries, participants deepen their expertise, establish new contacts and acquire intercultural skills.
In turn, the host organisations benefit from the expertise, regional knowledge and networks of the CCP Fellows. Participants can also attend transcultural workshops, networking and professional events hosted by the CCP. After returning to their daily working lives, participants then bring the experience they have gained into their home organisation. Europe Foundation is pleased to announce a call for proposals for Disabled People’s Organizations (DPOs) and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) operating in Shida Kartli, Kvemo Kartli, Kakheti, and Samtskhe-Javakheti regions of Georgia and working on promoting and protecting the rights of people with disability through monitoring and advocacy efforts directed toward better implementation of the 2020 Law of Georgia on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
The grant support aims at contributing to more accountable and transparent public policy making in Georgia through promoting participatory civic monitoring and advocacy as it relates to the rights of people with disabilities. In addition, it aims at strengthening the institutional and thematic capacities of the grantee DPOs and CSOs, so that they are better able to fulfill their mission.

UN Women invites eligible applicants to submit applications for Small Grants for local Civil Society Organizations from both banks of the Nistru river under the Peacebuilding Fund Project.
The small grants are intended exclusively to support the institutional capacity development of CSOs from both banks of Nistru River to enable them to advocate for gender equality and women empowerment. The Small Grant Agreement will be implemented for a maximum period of 6 months, starting with February 2023. UN Women invites eligible applicants to submit small grants applications for eligible activities, as elaborated in this advertisement. UN Women will consider awarding several small grants.
Under this call, UN Women intends to support the institutional capacity development of 6 (six) grassroot women-led CSOs from both banks of Nistru river (3 CSOs from the left bank and 3 CSOs from the right bank), to increase their capacities to advocate on women’s rights and gender equality and human security in the peacebuilding context. Ukraine: Small Grants for Investigative Reporting Projects

The Institute for War and Peace Reporting is now inviting applications from journalists for its Small Grants for Investigative Reporting Projects.
The aim of the call for applications is to provide Ukraine journalists with the skills, knowledge and financial support to produce collaborative investigative reports that provide audiences and decision-makers with objective, credible information about the situation facing media professionals in Ukraine, including abuses faced.
Publications and events will target the general public, the wider media community, and international stakeholders to raise awareness and support for greater protections for journalists, and ultimately contribute to improvements in the enabling environment within which journalists can exercise their professions.
The project will provide training and financial and editorial support for 16 Ukrainian journalists to conduct investigative reporting that documents violations of journalists’ rights in Ukraine. The 16 journalists will team up (typically two journalists per report) to complete up to 8 collaborative investigative reports; They will accept investigative reporting proposals related to violations of rights and attacks on the media working in Ukraine.

The projects that they support through MATRA, in Serbia and Montenegro, are complementary to the EU policy.

These are fields in which progress is necessary, as outlined in the annual reports of European Commission, and priorities set by governments of Serbia and Montenegro.

ISDAO – Love Alliance: Call for Proposals for the 3rd cycle

The Initiative Sankofa d’Afrique de l’Ouest (ISDAO) has launched a Call for Proposals for the 3rd cycle of grants from organizations/groups led by LGBTQI people, people who use drugs, and/or sex workers communities in Burkina Faso and Nigeria.

The Love Alliance Partnership is a five-year (2021-2025) initiative to provide country-level grants and movement building in ten (10) countries in West, East, Southern and North Africa. Its overall goal is to ensure that communities of LGBTQI people, sex workers, and people who use drugs are healthy and empowered through a more inclusive and people-centered approach to sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). Human Rights Due Diligence in Business Operations Training in Kyrgyzstan
